Singapore: The Rainy City-State

I wish it would stop raining. Po, I, and my brother are in Singapore. We're trying to visit as many places as possible in Singapore but the weather isn't cooperating at all. It's been five days since we got here in Singapore. The trip from L.A. to Singapore was remarkably filled with obstacles, due to Po's passport problem. United Airlines refused to fly us to Singapore because Po's passport is expiring soon.

Long story short, our brother helped us from back home. So five minutes before missing the flight from L.A. to Singapore (via Tokyo), the airline cleared us to fly. Then we got stuck again in Singapore, trying to get Po to pass through immigration. It was the most difficult airplane trip I've had thus far. The encouraging part was we still managed to pass a gospel tract (which includes a free Bible offer) to the airline counter's staff in LAX. She was quite receptive, although we didn't get to speak about it much (we were in a hurry, almost missed our flight).

 I apologize for the lack of photos in my recent posts. Po has this nice SLR camera that she carries everywhere, so I let her take the pictures. I haven't been carrying my camera this past week. I'm the map carrier. I carry my Singapore maps everywhere. I have maps for the Sentosa Island, Chinatown, Little India, Orchard Road, oh and of course the SMRT (Singapore's bullet train). My brother teased me for carrying so many maps and opening them everywhere we go. It was interesting to learn how I depended a lot on research, user reviews, and planning.

    I haven't been to Singapore in a long time. How is Sentosa now? Is it revamped?

    Hi, Sarah. Well, yes, Sentosa is somewhat revamped. It has this new resort area near the entrance of the island, where the Universal Studios is. I suggest spending only 3-4 days, it's still a small island, not much you can do there.

Summer 2012 Puerto Rico Blending Trip: The People

Without a doubt, Puerto Rico has it all:  nature and culture . Yet what I enjoyed the most was meeting Christians, young and old, and having a rich fellowship with them (despite the language barrier that we had since I don't really speak Spanish). Crossing The River Jordan

Only Lovers Can Be Mighty

Continuing from my last post on our Christian mission in choosing to be part of the mighty ones  is another quote by R. Kangas, inspired by the divine romance portrayed in Song of Songs chapter 3: "We are not trained to be mighty ones merely by being sent to a barren place to pass through one hardship after another. Rather we are trained by maintaining and nurturing our love toward our Beloved. Our Beloved is the mighty One. His love prevails... We should not allow the enthusiasm of war or the thrill of victory to interfere with our steady, developing, ongoing romance with the Lord." The mighty ones are God's army, beautiful in the Lord's eyes and terrifying to the enemy ( Song of Songs 6:4 ). MVP: The Most Valuable Person in the Lord's Eyes

Last week I wrote Only Lovers Can Be Mighty . Being a lover and a warrior are two sides of the same coin. This week though I was reminded of a fellowship I had with Mr. Danker, an older brother in the Lord, concerning: Who would be the most valuable person in the Lord's eyes? Previously I considered being a lover and being the most valuable person as pretty much identical. I mean if you're a lover to someone, then by default, aren't you the most valuable person in that someone's eyes? Our answer would, of course, be yes. Now let us consider together. If that lover of yours truly, deeply, fervently, crazily love you, but simultaneously strong in the sense of always insisting upon his/her ways, styles, concepts of values, standards, and opinions; is he/she still practically the most valuable person in your eyes?
