Knowing Our Conscience (Part 2 of 2)

The Education of Our Conscience

There needs to be the acquirement of the knowledge of the glory of Jehovah through our reading, studying, enjoying, and experiencing His Word in the Bible. How we need to be reconstituted with and by the Word of God. How we need to read the Bible and being educated in God's language.

Now that I consider more, if all the consciences (if there's a plural form of the word) on this earth are properly functioning, we would not need any human government. Everyone would behave. There would be peace and order everywhere we turn our head, but that is not the case today - is it?

A foreigner once mocked a Christian, an ex-cannibal, for reading the Bible. The Christian simply responded, "You should be thankful that I'm reading the Bible. Otherwise, you would be here (pointing at his stomach) by now."
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1)
"For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Jehovah, as the waters cover the sea." (Habakkuk 2:14)
It is possible, to educate our conscience. I would be the first one to affirm this fact. I'm, by default, a frank person. So I could easily speak up my thoughts to others, even if it may hurt them. You know I always thought it was for their good that I spoke up. I spoke up so people could shape up. It was just a funny concept that I had.
One day, I was reading Colossians 4:6, "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one." The verse was very convicting, yet life-giving at the same time. I still make mistakes. Many times I speak up without much consideration of others. Yet the sense within has changed. It's definitely not about striving to be better in my speech. Instead, there's always a gentle nudging inside that reminds me about how I speak.

Be always with grace. Have grace with all the people. Seasoned with salt. Pleasant.

These words are the Lord's speaking inside of me. If I overstep these warnings, my conscience would bother me. Then I'd have to turn to Him, confess, and repent concerning my failures. So that my conscience would be clear from offenses.

The more I read the Word, the more I get to repent, the more I get to be washed. The more I enjoy the Word, the keener my conscience becomes, the more the Lord's speaking dwells in me richly.

  1. Amen!
May the Lord have mercy on us in order to take the Bible not as a lifeless collection of guidelines for ethical Christian living, but as the portrayal of our Lord Jesus who wants to become our life and living.

    1. Yes, the Bible contains the Living Word Himself, our Lord Jesus. You reminded me of part of a verse spoken by the Lord, "The words which I have spoken to you are spirit and are life" (John 6:63).

  2. I also enjoy coming to the Lord and being reconstituted with and by His word. It is so sweet that we don't have to try harder or be something special; when we fail all we need to do is turn and repent and enjoy the Lord. Recently I've felt bound by one particular failure and I keep trying to do better or correct myself but I keep failing over and over and over again. I am so encouraged that we just keep repenting and enjoying the Lord and He spreads from our spirit to our soul and each day He is anointing us. Hallelujah! Thank you for posting.

    1. Wow, thank you for sharing. It's funny to realize that the Lord knows we can't make it to His standard. So what count in the end are not the successes or failures, but our coming to Him, communion with Him, and having a spiritual transaction with Him.

I'm glad you're encouraged to go on.
